L'avis des experts

Tim Atkin:

Abel Mendoza has been making an unblended Tempranillo Blanco since 2009, which puts him in the variety’s vanguard. Sourced from three different parcels in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, it’s a wine that wears its new French oak lightly, with more zip and focus than the 2023 release and flavours of yellow apple, grapefruit and vanilla pod. 2026-31

The Wine Advocate:

The 2024 Tempranillo Blanco, the last varietal white to be added to the collection in 2011, is now produced with grapes from three vineyards where the vines range between seven and 16 years of age. The yield was 5,500 kilos of grapes per hectare, which is not bad. The grapes fermented in French oak barrels with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured in those French barriques with fine lees, which were periodically stirred for five months. This is not a shy wine; it's spicy and ripe, with notes of yellow fruit, coming in at 14% alcohol, with a pH of 3.28 and 7.19 grams of acidity. What I like best is the salty twist in the finish, which is common among the other whites. 1,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2025.
