L'avis des experts
I tasted again the 2021 Suelos, the old Jarrarte, produced with Tempranillo from 40+-year-old vines on clay, limestone, silt and stony soils in the villages of Ábalos, Labastida and San Vicente de la Sonsierra. It fermented destemmed in stainless steel, went through malolactic in concrete and matured in second-use French oak barrels. This time, it shows more creaminess and spiciness from the oak, with notes of sweet spices and a lactic touch, giving it a false sweetness I had not noticed before. The palate shows much better and is seamless, vibrant and fine-boned, with elegant tannins that are being resolved and showing very good acidity in the finish. It's ripe without excess at 14.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.75, 5.5 grams of acidity. It will probably keep changing in the bottle... 13,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023.
Fresh black plums, ripe raspberries and a touch of sweet spices and vanilla. Medium-bodied with firm tannins and a juicy, medium-long finish. 100% tempranillo. Still youthful but can drink or hold.
