Pie Firme 2020
Description

The 2020 Pie Firme is a wine from Jumilla and comes from ungrafted Monastrell grapes from vines planted in 1955 in the village of Fuente-Álamo in Albacete at 980 meters in altitude on limestone-rich soils. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and had a long maceration, with an élevage in foudre that lasted 14 months. The color is quite open and with brown tints, the character more oxidative, going toward the character of a Fondillón. It has abundant notes of esparto grass and other Mediterranean herbs, nutty, ripe and heady, with 15% alcohol on the label. It's full-bodied with abundant, grainy tannins. 4,500 bottles were filled in July 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)
An attractive monastrell that’s more interesting than many of its peers, which are known for rich, sweet fruit. This, in contrast, is on the spicier side of the spectrum, showing savoriness, sage, peppercorns, grilled citrus and plowed earth. Medium- to full-bodied with dusty tannins and a fine-grained finish. Drink now. (Zekun Shuai)
