Marzolín 2022
Description

The 2022 Marzolin, was produced with a field blend of 55% Moristel and 45% Garnacha from vines planted in 1920 that, due to its high proportion of Moristel, resisted the drought of 2022 exceptionally well. The name of the wine is the name of the plot, which is beautiful and has an unusually high percentage of Moristel (wrongly identified as Monastrell in the papers), a grape with more acidity and tannin than Garnacha. It's juicy, meaty, with tannin, a different texture (more "Italian," dusty, powdery) and concentration. It should age well in bottle. It fermented with 15% whole clusters and matured in 500- and 650-liter barrels for one year and six more months in concrete. 2,466 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2023. After the experience with this plot, they are going to plant more Moristel, as they believe it's a grape that is going to work well with climate change. (Luis Gutiérrez)
