Description

The Wine Advocate:

There is a new sparkling wine produced exclusively with red Sumoll grapes, the 2017 Els Pagesos, which has a golden color and a very different nose with notes of hay and straw, medicinal and balsamic. It was a very dry year with low yields, and the small grapes delivered very good balance. It's a fresh wine from a warm year, a year of concentration with high acidity and a strong limestone chalky sensation. It refermented in bottle after five months in tank and was in bottle with lees for 78 months. It has crazy parameters: 12.42% alcohol, a pH of 2.87 and very high acidity, even after it went through malolactic fermentation. This is sharp, mineral and austere, textured and energetic, with long aging potential in bottle. 1,000 bottles produced. It was disgorged in March 2025. They didn't produce this wine in 2018 and jumped to 2019 as the next vintage and 2021 after that.
