Description

C'est dans la ria d'Arousa que l'Atlantique se fond avec la terre pour dicter le caractère de ce vin unique. Martín Códax rend hommage à la côte galicienne qui façonne son identité, à ces vignobles qui respirent le sel marin et la brise directe de la ria. Il s'agit d'un albariño qui se présente comme un joyau à la structure verticale et tendue. Son élevage sur lies lui confère juste ce qu’il faut de volume pour équilibrer une acidité électrique, avec une finale saline et longue, incomparable, qui reste gravée dans la mémoire.

Arousa is very much an Atlantic wine, sourced from 30 parcels close to the waves in Cambados. Slightly richer than the 2021 release, this has lovely texture, some leesy midpalate weight, aromas of seaweed and oyster shell and a pithy, focused, saline palate. Mouth-wateringly fresh and ageing very gracefully. 2025-30

Decanter:

This is probably my favourite wine from Rías Baixas’ leading cooperative. As part of a new range focusing on specific sites and landscapes, Arousa Albariño aims to capture the essence of vineyards near the Arousa estuary at the mouth of river Umia. Pure and clean, with notes of salt water, wet stones, ripe fruit and bay leaves. Juicy, precise and persistent.

James Suckling:

This comes from plots in the delta of the Umia River, the bottom of the vineyard getting slightly wet when the tide rises. Crisp with lots of salinity, this is nervy, bright and very approachable. Drink now or hold.
