Viña Salceda Entresierras 2023
Description

When I put my nose in the glass of the white 2023 Entresierras, I can't help but think of the Montes Obarenes white from Gómez Cruzado, as they obviously have the same philosophy from the same brain. It's a combination of Viura from the Alto Najerilla, which is sharp and has high acidity, and Viura from the Sonsierra, which is structured, sapid and complex. It's their take on the great whites from Rioja, with aging potential and integrated acidity, keeping the freshness and balance. It's mostly Viura, with some 7% Tempranillo Blanco and 1% other whites, and it has the fruit and wider palate from the Tempranillo Blanco. It fermented with part in untoasted barrels and part in stainless steel; the barrel part stayed in the barrels, and the stainless steel portion was transferred to oak foudres and concrete eggs with the fine lees, where the wines matured for 12 months. The wines were then blended, and they selected around 40% of the total volume. It has ripeness and clout, 14% alcohol and a pH of 3.4, denoting freshness and balance. It's characterful, powerful, elegant, balanced and tasty and has a long, almost salty finish. 5,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2025. This is an ambitious white, and it's impressive in its maiden year. Luis Gutiérrez
Absolutely delicious, enlivened by mineral verve and briny salinity. Gently toasty and appetisingly creamy with a bed of lemon curd, frangipane and almond pie. A wine with moreish expressiveness and an edge of mountainous freshness.
