Mengoba Las Tinajas Godello 2020
Description

Vibrant and full of personality, this is a white wine from the region but not as we know it.
Fruit comes from Godello vines in Cacabelos but the wine isn’t classified Bierzo as the style sits
outside the DO’s norms. Vinified and aged on skins for 10 months followed by a couple of years
in bottle, it is dark yellow in colour. The nose belies the lengthy aging period with beautiful
orange blossom, peach and tropical citrus fruits. Incredibly fresh on the palate, there is just
a hint of tannic grip and the bright orange finish is utterly delicious! 2024-26
The orange-ish 2020 Las Tinajas was produced with Godello from an old plot in the village of Espanillo on decomposed slate soils. The destemmed grapes were put into four 500-liter earthenware tinajas or amphorae where the wine fermented and was kept with the skins for 10 months. It has a deep golden, almost amber color and a subtle "orange" nose with notes of dried apricots, quince paste and pollen and a strict and serious palate that is dry, with a faint earthy sensation in the finish. This is a very original orange Godello. 1,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2022. This is also sold without the Bierzo appellation of origin.
