Donnafugata Ben Ryé 2023
Description

The Donnafugata 2023 Passito di Pantelleria Ben Ryé is similar in style to the 2022 vintage but feels younger, more primary and more intense. The challenging growing season brought abundant rain in May and a spell of high temperatures in July, resulting in a smaller crop with less compact clusters and smaller berries. The wine comes across as sweeter and bigger, with abundant raisin, honey and candied fruit. This is sticky-fingers territory, with sugar everywhere, although there is enough freshness to maintain its shape. The wine ages for approximately five months in tank and at least 16 months in bottle. This is a 103,000-bottle production, expressed as 750-milliliter equivalents (but the retail price refers to a 375-milliliter bottle).
This wine is super perfumed as always with apricot juice aromas, dates, iodine, dried grapes and dried figs, pine resin and balsamic notes. Oily texture, viscous and sweet, it shines for toasty flavors like caramelized sugar and refreshing acidity, full-bodied and with a sweetish finish. Drink now.
