David & Nadia Plat'Bos 2022
Description

David and Nadia Sadie’s home vineyard on the Paardebosch farm next to their cellar is a classic example of Chenin Blanc grown on Swartland’s decomposed granite soils. It’s a quintessential, benchmark wine with a teasing combination of ripe, golden orchard fruit and peppery spice, but with lively, thrusting acids that give it irresistible zest and lift. The impression is sprightly, lively and alert with aromas of ripe red apple, orange pith, fresh quince, crunchy pineapple and papaya, plus a tangy, fruity finish. An extrovert performance in the 2022 vintage, this is by far the most immediate and open of the single vineyard Chenins from the vintage.
This has a beautifully complex array of thyme, sliced apples, grapefruit, blanched almonds and lemon pith. Hints of nutmeg. Sleek, tight and very mineral, even a little restrained, with a medium body and a long and linear finish. Drink or hold.
Bursting with a fresh, clean and spicy nose, the 2022 Plat'bos Chenin Blanc offers notions of dusty citrus blossoms, white peach and Meyer lemon zest with a subtle hint of nuttiness. Medium-bodied, mineral driven and zesty on the palate, this is youthful and expressive with a kiss of phenolic bitterness. It will remain food friendly for years to come. Nicely done, I want more!
