Cuentaviñas Septeno 2022
Description

Eduardo Eguren's aim is to avoid making what he calls "stereotypical Riojas" and heis certainly done that with the first release of this pure Tempranillo from a 2,5-hectare parcel in La Canoca. Showing some clove spice form partial whole clister fermentation, it's like a cross between a Pinot Noir and a Garnacha, with layers of garrigue, pomegranate and red cherry, fine tannins and a graceful, tapering finish. 2026-38.
What a precise wine from this hot, challenging year. This is all about freshness with cherries, plums, bergamot and minerals. Elegant and effortless with medium body and fine tannins. Long finish. From La Canoca. 100% tempranillo. Drink now or hold. 2,978 bottles. (Zekun Shuai)
The new red 2022 Septeno was produced with grapes from a plot planted in 1972 at 600 meters above sea level in the lieu-dit of La Canoca in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The full clusters fermented for 96 days with the cap under the wine and matured in French oak vat for 16 months. It's subtle, harmonious and elegant, with all the components in very good balance, fresh and with very fine tannins. It's clean, focused and precise, with symmetry. There's still a little bit of oak to be integrated with some more time in bottle. This is a noteworthy addition to the portfolio. 2,978 bottles were filled in June 2024. (Luis Gutiérrez)
