Áurea Minerva 2022
Description

Crushed blue and purple fruit with violets and stones. Such a pristine Ribera del Duero that doesn't tire you. The tannins are abundant and dusty and the acidity is really fresh and juicy. Full yet bright. Drink from 2025.
The 2022 Áurea Minerva is the third wine in order of production, in this case from their vines in Peñaranda de Duero, a village with potential for fresher wines where the vines are planted at 950 to 1,000 meters above sea level. The grapes were handpicked on September 30 and October 1. They have a plot that was planted 50 years ago, and they planted more from 2022. It fermented in stainless steel and 390-liter French oak barrels, where it matured for a period of 12 months. It has 14.4% alcohol and a lower pH than most of its siblings, 3.66, denoting freshness. The wine is darker, and I feel the ripeness of the year and the concentration from the old vines. It's powerful and full-bodied, with some tannins to be resolved. 3,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2023.
Only 3,000 bottles produced of this intense and characterful Ribera del Duero. Enveloping nose, with intense florality and sweet black and red fruit sprinkled with spicy dust. The palate reveals the delicious savouriness of dried Mediterranean herbs and salty liquorice. A smoky veil adds depth of field. Assertive tannins with a vibrant spicy quality.
Rioja bodega CVNE's Ribera del Duero outpost is improving with every vintage. This is an ambitious varietal Tinto Fino from a parcel called Las Casqueras in Peñaranda, which shows the 985 metre altitude of its source. Structured, intense and assertively oaked, it has layers of liquorice, sweet spices, damson and blackberry and a backbone of muscular tannins. 2025-32
