Description

Le millésime 2021 du second vin du Château Angélus a été qualifié par le domaine de « équilibré et corsé, de grande qualité et doté d'un grand potentiel d'élevage, reflet fidèle de son terroir exceptionnel ». Un millésime qui ne restera pas dans les annales pour son niveau de production, en raison d'une sélection rigoureuse visant à ne récolter que les meilleurs raisins.

Climat
Ce millésime se distingue par un hiver doux et pluvieux, avec plusieurs épisodes de mildiou au printemps. L'été a tardé à arriver, mais à partir du mois d'août, les conditions ont été très favorables jusqu'à la Vendange.
Vinification
Fermentation dans des cuves coniques inversées en acier inoxydable à une température de 28 °C. Macération post-fermentaire à 28-30 °C pendant 1 à 3 semaines.
Elevage
Rouge crianza de 16 mois en fûts de chêne français neufs (60 %) et de deuxième utilisation (40 %).

Decanter:

Beautifully expressive aromatics, really jump from the glass, alive and nuanced, floral, fruity - rosehip, cranberry, cardamom, cinnamon. Supple and lithe, this has movement to it which is so nice. Not super tense and straight, not dense and chewy, somewhere in-between with bright, mouth-watering acidity that lifts the expression. Hints of chalky minerality on the finish brings it back to focus with a moreish aspect. Tannins are great, barely noticeable but still giving the frame and support to the structure. Well delivered. Gorgeous purity, balance and harmonious, really lovely drinking here.

James Suckling:

This delicious wine is crunchy and crisp with plums, redcurrants, flowers and light cedar. Medium body, juicy tannins and a fresh finish. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. Drink or hold.

The 2021 Le Carillon D'Angélus is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that spent 18 months in 60% new French oak. Black cherries, mulberries, spicy wood, and hints of graphite and spicy wood all define the aromatics, and this beauty hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, a lively, elegant mouthfeel, fine tannins, and outstanding length.

The 2021 Le Carillon d'Angélus offers up aromas of dark berries, grilled plums, espresso roast, sweet soil tones and cigar wrapper, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered palate that's deep and concentrated, with lively acids, chalky tannins and a long, youthfully oak-inflected finish. Like its big sibling, it's closed with a natural cork.

Wine Enthusiast:

This second-label wine is rich, packed with jammy Merlot and cedar-wood aromas. Its solid texture is full of aging potential. Juicy with black-currant fruits, the wine will be ready to drink from 2027.
