Description

The Wine Advocate:

The white 2023 Mater-Dôme Branco comes from the range produced exclusively from the village of Mêda in Douro Superior, a place that was famous in the past but has been diluted in the immensity of the Douro and which they think has extraordinary potential. In this case, the wine is from a high-altitude zone at 600 meters above sea level, with soils that are a transition between schist and granite, with more rain than the average in Douro and milder summers and cooler winters, which is ideal for fresh whites. It was produced with a blend of Rabigato, Síria, Gouveio and Viosinho, fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in concrete for one winter. It's clean, serious and austere, which seems to be their signature, as the wines are never exuberant and rarely fruit-driven. The whites tend to have contained ripeness, moderate alcohol and go through malolactic. This has 13% alcohol and reveals a velvety mouthfeel with integrated acidity and a pH of 3.46 that denotes freshness without being sharp. 4,000 bottles produced.
