L'avis des experts

The Wine Advocate:

The 2022 Clos Santuy is much darker than the 2020 and is composed of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Albillo Mayor, the field blend from a lieu-dit in the village of Piquera San Esteban (Soria), south of the Duero but outside the limits of Ribera del Duero. The vines are on a hill at 950 meters above sea level, many centenaries and ungrafted vines on sandy and gravel soils on sandstone and limestone mother rock. The destemmed grapes fermented together in stainless steel followed by malolactic fermentation in barrique and aging of 19 months in used 225- and 600-liter barrels. It has ripe and fruit-driven aromas and a juicy palate. It has 14.61% alcohol and is ripe, reflecting a warm and dry year but with more freshness than initially anticipated after the torrid summer. 1,400 bottles were filled in May 2024, a mere few days before I tasted it, so maybe I'm underestimating it. - Luis Gutiérrez.

James Suckling:

Striking freshness, depth and complexity, with a bright mineral twist to the blue-fruited nose. Some freshly picked violets, cocoa powder and subtle spices. Nervy and chalky, with a full body and a lengthy finish. Some dried herbs at the end. Drink from 2025. - Zekun Shuai, Senior Editor.
