Description

Grand Cru Classé du Haut-Médoc, un grand classique parmi l’élite des vins du Médoc, auquel le groupe Dourthe s’est associé en 1979. Un projet qui se distingue par la finesse, la personnalité et la profondeur de ses vins, qui révèlent tout le potentiel des graviers profonds de ce terroir singulier. Des sols offrant des conditions idéales pour les cépages à maturation tardive tels que le Cabernet sauvignon et le Petit verdot. Ce millésime a été particulièrement chaud et sec ; pourtant, les premières impressions des critiques le qualifient de frais, vif et promettant une belle évolution en bouteille.

Decanter:

Juicy, forward, bright and vibrant this has a great energy straight away, crisp and tannic, but well integrated so you get almost a bouncy palate with flint edges giving minerality and acidity providing the lift. Feels detailed and precise, lovely definition to the overall frame and this carries to a long finish. Impressive, I like the strength and the focus and it doesn't feel overripe or too extracted. So much to like about this wine with subtle liquorice, mint and crushed stone aspects. This will be excellent. HVE3 certified. Ageing 12 months in 29% new oak barrels, 6 batches in amphora. Harvest 12 September - 1 October. Tasted twice.

James Suckling:

Brooding on the nose, with fresh blackberries and dried flowers. The palate is marked by richly textured dark-fruit flavors, showing firm, incisive tannins and a vibrant acidity that holds everything together. Very attractive and structured. A blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot. Drink now or hold.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2023 Belgrave is a notable success in this vintage, revealing aromas of dark wild berries, flowers, dark cherries and licorice. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it is well-balanced and framed by powdery tannins that extend into a long, mineral finish marked by a distinctly Médocain character.
