Cepparello marque un tournant majeur dans l’histoire viticole de la Toscane, s’imposant comme l’un des « Supertoscans » les plus novateurs et emblématiques. Élaboré par la célèbre maison Isole e Olena, ce vin rouge a vu le jour avec la ferme ambition de mettre en valeur la grandeur et la pureté du Sangiovese, en défiant dès ses origines les réglementations rigides de la région. Issu d’une sélection rigoureuse des parcelles les plus ensoleillées, sur des sols de galestro, il bénéficie d’un élevage minutieux en fûts de chêne français et en bouteille, qui lui confère une sophistication intemporelle. Un véritable vin culte, profond et équilibré, conçu pour les grands passionnés du terroir toscan.

Vue
D'une couleur rouge rubis intense aux reflets grenat, avec une robe moyenne à élevée, limpide et brillante.
Nez
Corsé, dominé par des arômes de cerise mûre, de prune et de violette, accompagnés de notes d'épices douces et de subtiles notes boisées toastées, sur un fond balsamique et minéral discret.
Bouche
D’attaque élégante, ample et ferme, ce vin se distingue par ses tanins nobles et bien intégrés, une acidité vive qui lui confère de la fraîcheur, ainsi qu’une longue finale persistante et pleine de caractère.
Température de service
16 °C.
Accord mets et vin
Idéal pour accompagner les viandes rouges grillées, comme la célèbre « bistecca alla fiorentina », les ragoûts de petit gibier, les plats à base de truffe noire et les fromages affinés tels que le pecorino toscan.

Vignoble et élaboration

Vinification
Fermentation dans des cuves coniques en chêne français.

Elevage
Élevage de 18 mois en fûts et tonneaux neufs et usagés de chêne français, ainsi que dans des fûts de grande contenance. Après son séjour en fûts, le vin continue à s'affiner pendant 12 mois supplémentaires en bouteille.

James Suckling:

Restrained at the first sniff, this vintage shines with smoky and straw aromas, together with intense violets, bright red cherries and cherry stones. Cedar wood in depth. Full-bodied and extracted, yet full of fruit sweetness, displaying velvety tannins and crisp integrated acidity which enhances and lengthens the cherry flavor. Super polished finish which is not always the case in this vintage. Drinkable now, but best from 2026. (Aldo Fiordelli)

Falstaff:

Brilliant ruby colour with a fine garnet shimmer. Opens with notes of tobacco, then lots of cherry, some raspberry, blackberry and milk chocolate. Juicy and clearly defined fruit on the palate, lots of raspberry, opens with fine-knit, polished tannins, spans a wide arc, salty on the finish.

The Wine Advocate:

This is my first taste of Isole e Olena's landmark wine now that this historic estate has passed from the ownership of the De Marchi family to France's EPI Group (Société Européenne de Participations Industrielles). The 2022 Cepparello is all Sangiovese from this magnificent property that covers the rolling hills between two tiny hamlets, one named Isole and the other Olena. In between are vineyards on well-draining soils with galestro shale, open vistas and gentle breezes. These conditions contribute to the vibrancy of the fruit and its natural freshness. Winemaking for Cepparello follows a familiar pattern, starting with fermentation in cone-shaped vats and aging in a combination of barrique, tonneaux and botte grande for 18 months. I can't say that this is my favorite vintage of Cepparello, especially when I think back to 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2021. The 2022 offers sweeping flavors and good concentration, but it does not have the same depth or length. With dark cherry, blackcurrant, spice and iris root, this is an elegant wine with an accessible personality that makes it approachable without too much fuss. Production is 50,000 bottles.

Decanter:

The nose is spry and delicate, and less plump and opulent than the high alcohol would suggest, and it exudes ripe cherry fruit. The fine attack leads to a velvety palate, compact and backed by firm acidity. The alcohol is not that evident and the wine finishes with welcome elegance, polish and length of flavour.
