Description

Falstaff:

Deep, bright ruby red with garnet reflections. Elegant and complex on the nose, with subtle aromas of Rumtopf, cherry compote and plums, nuances of dried rose petals hints of tomato and smoke. Juicy and balanced on the palate, with good drinking flow, fine-grained tannins and a long, fruity finish, lots of potential!

James Suckling:

Aromas of red fruit, cedar, mushrooms and bark follow through to a full body with layers of tannins and a fruity and crunchy finish. Medium- to full-bodied. Dense and layered with lots going on. A blend of 50% merlot (Avignonese) and 50% sangiovese (Capannelle)This needs three or four years to come together. (James Suckling)

The Wine Advocate:

One of Tuscany's longest-lasting winery collaborations, the Avignonesi & Capannelle 2020 50 & 50 is equal parts Merlot (from Avignonesi) and Sangiovese (from Capannelle). This hot-vintage edition shows loads of dark fruit character on the bouquet, although it is nearly impossible to make out the identity of either one of the two grapes used. Perhaps the warm growing conditions have masked those distinct varietal tones to a mild extent. On the palate, this Tuscan blend shows medium weight and intensity. (Monica Larner)

Decanter:

A big, extracted wine, with red and black cherry flavours, rosemary, clove and smoke notes and smooth tannins and acidity.
