Description

El Portillo est un petit vignoble d'un peu moins d'un hectare et demi situé dans la partie haute du lieu-dit Las Navas, à Gumiel de Mercado. Il a été planté en 1936 par la famille Calvo, et aujourd'hui, ce sont les frères Rodrigo et Asier qui récoltent les fruits de leur héritage familial.

C'

est à partir de ce single vineyard qu'ils élaborent ce vin rouge, un assemblage de Tinto fino, Grenache et Valenciano, comme on appelle le Bobal dans cette région. Un vin corsé et épicé, riche en nuances et avec un caractère fruité très séduisant. Un hommage à la culture viticole de Gumiel de Mercado et à leur famille.&nbsp

Crunchy red fruits and violets on the nose, with a dusty edge and layers of dried flowers and hibiscus. The palate is medium-bodied, with focused, precise tannins and a delicate veil of red fruit that adds lift. A subtle brightness ties it all together with elegance and finesse. Aged in foudres, this wine comes from a single vineyard planted in 1940 at 850 meters elevation in the village of Gumiel de Mercado. Always a singular expression of Ribera del Duero. Drink now or hold.

The 2022 El Portillo is nothing short of stunning, and it transcends the character of the torrid and extremely dry year. The label here mentions Tinto Fino, Garnacha and Valenciano (Bobal), the grapes found in the field blend of the old vineyards, like this 1.46-hectare plot called El Portillo that was planted in 1936. The plot is also located in the lieu-dit of La Nava, from which they produce their white. This was produced like the wines from yesteryear, even using old places, a lagar and a cave from the 18th and 15th centuries. It has an explosive and hypnotic nose that's really attractive, showy and addictive, showing the complexity of the field blend, with around 10% of Garnacha and Bobal this year; and they managed to keep it at 13.8% alcohol through an early harvest. It has a medium-bodied palate with a silky texture and integrated acidity and is very elegant and fine-boned. This can also develop nicely in bottle, a constant in their wines. 3,120 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2023.
