Description

Le Château Talbot jouit d’une réputation bien établie au sein du riche panorama viticole du Médoc. Depuis longtemps, ce vin rouge fait preuve d’une grande régularité, même lors de millésimes difficiles, ce qui a conduit de nombreux spécialistes à le considérer comme un bon représentant de l’appellation Saint-Julien. Ses tanins souples et toujours vifs, apportés principalement par le Cabernet Sauvignon, associés à sa fraîcheur agréable, garantissent un Élevage satisfaisant. C’est précisément ce millésime 2023 qui, à l’instar de nombreux autres vins du Médoc, présente la plus forte proportion de ce cépage dans le coupage par rapport aux millésimes récents précédents.

Lovely, showing good depth for the vintage, with cassis, graphite and some roasted spices. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and a long, vertical finish. A blend of 77% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot and 3% petit verdot. Better from 2028.

The Wine Advocate:

Offering up aromas of dark berries, baking chocolate, plums, espresso roast and crushed mint, the 2023 Talbot is medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy, with a rich but lively core of fruit, powdery tannins and a long, penetrating finish. Harvested over the course of fully four weeks, it's a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot that attained 13% alcohol.

Decanter:

As soon as the cork is pulled, the 2023 Talbot shows a fresh, fragrantly fruity nose with a clean intensity. Full of boysenberry and plum at the outset, aromas of pencil shavings and mint develop within half an hour of air. Despite a relatively abundant yield of 54hl/ha, the palate has more generosity and depth than many 2023s. With acidity to match, suave tannins and an innocuous oak influence (15 months in 60% new oak), this vintage of Talbot promises to drink well early on in life while still possessing a respectable lifespan (24 hours on, this is still so fresh and juicy). Beyond being a very good Talbot and a very good 2023, this wine further reinforces the estate’s upward trajectory under the direction of general manager Jean-Michel Laporte. The 2023’s assemblage is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, harvested between 13 September and 6 October, reaching 13% ABV.
