L'avis des experts
This is a serious Ribera del Duero rosado that might be one of the best from the region, if not the country. Minerally nose with subtle cream, elegant berry and grapefruit expressions. Full and tense, with concentrated flavors and a long, zesty, super-bright finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
La Peña uses grapes from a single, 0.46-hectare parcel at 948 metres in isolated Fuentenebro. Marrying Bobal, Viura and 25 other co-planted varieties, it's an intriguing and unique field blend that produces one of the best rosados in the region. Stony, sappy and focused, it has a touch of oak, cherry stone, watermelon and candyfloss flavours and good underlying structure. 2024-27
The salmon colored rosé 2022 La Peña was produced with the 50/50 blend of Tempranillo and Albillo Mayor white from very old vines and fermented and matured with the lees in 600-liter oak barrels. This is not a shy rosé in this warm and dry year, reaching 14.5% alcohol; it is restrained, with a faint lactic touch, a rounder and more powerful palate and a very serious mouthfeel that is balanced and chalky, with a bone-dry finish. 1,088 bottles were filled in May 2024.
