Malkoa 2016
Description

The 2016 Malkoa is 100% Hondarrabi Zuri from their estate vineyards on limestone, clay and sand soils, picked ripe (it's 13% alcohol) and kept in concrete with double lees (also the lees from another vintage) for two years before it was bottled. The bottles are also kept for a couple of years before they are released. I'd say this is a very good white wine rather than a Txakoli, as it doesn't follow the traditional style of a lightly fizzy and sharp young wine. This is more refined, with more depth and complexity, and the long aging has provided nuance and layers. This feels like a completely different wine from the 2014 I tasted before. It's solid and balanced, with a pleasant bitter twist in the finish. 5,500 bottles were filled in September 2018.
Brilliantly vivid, multilayered and complex, with thrilling acidity and notes of jasmine, roasted almond and honey. Very long waxy and saline finish.
