The 2016 Rheingau Riesling Halbtrocken—fermented with natural yeasts and aged for ten months in large oak vats—offers a clear and delicate Riesling bouquet of remarkable finesse and elegance, virtues that also characterize the palate. This is a characterful, round and well-structured Riesling in the off-dry style: very elegant and with a certain degree of complexity. The sweetness is discreet as is the oak and tannin structure, but both features will become even more integrated over the years. This is a gorgeous Rheingau Riesling with grip, tension and lingering lush fruit. Drink now, or better yet, wait to drink between 2020 and 2036. - Stephan Reinhardt.
