L'avis des experts
The first red was a pure Caíño Longo from the zone of Ribeiro, from different plots in the Avia Valley on decomposed sandy granite soils (sabrego). The 2018 Mixtura Red fermented in plastic bins followed by one year in used barrels and two years in a new 1,200-liter Stockinger foudre. It shows the creamy spiciness, the nutty and smoky notes from the new oak coupled with pungent note of freshly cracked black peppercorns, and it has a medium-bodied palate with moderate ripeness and alcohol (12.5%) and bright flavors of acid berries that show more in the nose after the wine has been in the glass for a while. It has strong oak-related flavors in the finish and some tannins. Will it integrate the oak with time? In future vintages, the effect of the oak should be subtler as the casks get older. The fruit is still lively. This wine will be produced again in 2021 and 2022. - Luis Gutiérrez.
