Los Rodales 2017
Fiche technique
L'avis des experts
The vineyard that names the 2017 Los Rodales was originally planted in 1930—then recovered and partly replanted in 2004—in the village of Miranda del Castañar with an equal-parts mixture of Rufete and the old local strain of Tempranillo known as Aragonés. Both varieties were harvested and vinified together. It matured in a used 500-liter French oak barrel, where it also finished fermentation. 2017 saw an early harvest, as it was a very dry and warm year. This is quite dominated by the Tempranillo, with a slightly reductive profile, so decanting it in advance would be a good idea. None of the wines show any influence from the wood in the élevage, as the wines tend to have a low pH and the oak is better integrated, or the wines extract less from the barrels. It has some grainy tannins and a medium-bodied mouthfeel. This is still marked by the Tempranillo. Only 650 bottles were produced in this first vintage.
