Château Sixtine Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2018
Fiche technique
L'avis des experts
The top release is the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Chateau Sixtine, which is 58% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre that was destemmed and brought up in demi-muids, with just 5% being new. It too is a rich, concentrated 2018, yet it has another level of freshness and elegance compared to the Manus Dei release, offering impressive black raspberry fruits, lots of spring flowers, and violet nuances, medium to full body, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. This is one classy, seamless 2018 that’s going to keep for 15 years or more.
Scents of raspberries and garrigue mark the nose of the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape, a full-bodied wine that delivers all of the Provençal flavors promised—then adds hints of dried spices and dark chocolate on the long, slightly warm finish. The tannins are silky and fine, the overall impression elegant, despite the alcohol (it's labeled at 15.5%). Like most 2018s, it's approachable now, and probably not one to cellar more than a decade. - Joe Czerwinski.
