Blackberries, blackcurrants and flowers with crushed stones. Full-bodied, yet tight and poised in the center palate, which adds drive and length. Some dusty tannins. Also iron and earth. Typical for the region. Drink or hold.

The Tasca Conti d'Almerita 2019 Sicilia Perricone Guarnaccio Tenuta Regaleali is a case study in this indigenous grape that finds its happy home in Sicily. Perricone shows plumy dark fruit and savory touches of scorched earth and black olive. The wine offers a mid-weight style and holds back in terms of concentration, a step that seems to intentionally soften some of the harsher edges of the grape. I could see a no-brainer pairing with grilled sausage.
