El sitio de McCrone ofrece un perfil de aroma y sabor claramente diferente al del Ata Rangi Pinot Noir, además se tiene en cuenta la edad de la vid. Un tinto a tener muy en cuenta por los aficionados a esta variedad.

Se presenta con tapón de rosca.

Muy aromática, maravillosa mezcla de violetas, cereza y toques especiados. Elementos de semilla de hinojo y romero.
Bouche
Brillante y enérgico con sabores a frutos rojos, llenando el paladar
medio. Final es largo y edificante, lo que lo convierte en un vino elegante y finamente estructurado.

Plantado utilizando una mezcla de clones que se han convertido en parte del tejido Ata Rangi: clon de Abel o “Gumboot”, selecciones de Dijon (115 y 777) y Clon 5.

Gravas aluviales y una costura compacta de arcilla que se abre camino en abanico sobre las gravas a través de una sección creando un efecto refrescante sobre las raíces en el suelo.

Maceración prefermentativa de 4 a 6 días con un 40% de racimo entero. Temperatura pico 31 °C. durante 21 días hasta el prensado. Fermentación maloláctica en barrica.
Elevage
Crianza de 11 meses en barricas de roble francés de las cuales el
25% es nuevo.

James Suckling:

A lovely nose of sliced strawberry, grated nutmeg, suede and rose. Negroni. Orange. Medium- to full-bodied with silky, fine tannins. Nuanced and concentrated with an array of subtle spice and herbs decorating the beautifully fresh red berries. Spice. Iron. Rust. Savory undertones provide depth and complexity on the palate and evolve and oscillate as time goes on. Open grain tannins at the end. New single vineyard bottling. Sustainable. Best after 2025. Screw cap.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2020 McCrone Vineyard Pinot Noir is great. This leads with salted tomato, cherry and caper brine. This is mineral as hell, tight, expansive and spicy and gray in color spectrum; it's not all ribald cherry/berry fruit. There is drama here—floral and rocky with ferruginous tannins. I like it. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Forty percent is whole cluster in the ferment, matured in barrique (25% new). The McCrone Vineyard is clay and gravels and is about 600 meters from the winery. It holds moisture but ripens earlier than the Masters (another clay site).
