Abeica El Bardallo 2022
Description

El Bardallo is a known lieu-dit in the village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, and the 2022 El Bardallo was produced from their plot that was planted in 1958 with around 50% Tempranillo, 40% Viura, 5% Garnacha and 5% white grapes (Torrontés and Garnacha Blanca). The destemmed grapes fermented all together in open stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts and had 10 days of maceration. It matured in used 500-liter French oak barrels for 12 months. It has contained ripeness, 14% alcohol (in reality it's 13.78%), a pH of 3.48 and 5.8 grams of acidity, coming through as balanced and fresh for the natural conditions of the year, perfumed, clean and light. It's very serious, structured, balanced and a somewhat classical red; it's incredible that with so much white in the blend, the wine is dark (co-pigmentation!) and feels as if it is 100% red grapes. Tasting it, I forgot I was tasting a wine from 2022; it feels harmonious, fresh and balanced, and the quality of the tannins is unusually elegant for the year. It's approachable but has stuffing to develop in bottle. Bravo! 1,726 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2024. (Luis Guitérrez)
Such an exciting red that's so racy and lustrous. So much fruit with some faint spices, hibiscus and minerals. Succulent and al dente fresh cherries and red berries on the palate. Tannins are fine and silky, yet most importantly fresh. Like the rest of Bodega Abeica’s wines, it is pure, bright, fresh and racy. From a 1.4-hectare vineyard that’s 66 years old in Abalos, co-planted with tempranillo, garnacha tinta, viura, garnacha blanca and torrontes. All co-fermented. 2,500 bottles made. Extremely delicious and drinkable now, but can hold.
