L'avis des experts
The red 2022 Guardaviñas was produced with Tempranillo from a plot he works biodynamically, 0.56 hectares in El Bardallo in San Vicente de las Sonsierra on limestone and sandy soils. The destemmed but uncrushed grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts without the use of any sulfur or any other product. Forty percent of the volume matured in French oak barrels for 13 months and the rest was kept in tank. It has a moderate 13% alcohol, a pH of 3.8 and a more advanced nose with a somewhat oxidative profile, with notes of cereals and herbs. The palate is fresher and younger, with fine tannins and nice balance. I liked the palate much better than the nose. But the nose should change with some bottle age... 2,151 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2023.
A racy, intense nose with lots of fresh, ripe fruit. Surprisingly peppery, with touches of iodine and balsam even though it’s 100% tempranillo. Piles of dusty tannins that turn chewy on the palate. Long, extracted and powerful. A bit rustic, but the reactive tannins are mouthwatering. It needs at least two more years to soften. No sulfites added. Drink from 2026.
