Description

Château Poujeaux es uno de los tintos más prestigiosos de la subzona bordelesa de Moulis. En esta añada de bajos rendimientos y muy buena concentración, la primeras catas nos ponen sobre la pista de un tinto poderoso y al mismo tiempo delicado, con gran complejidad aromática dominada por notas de violetas, grosella y pedernal. En boca destaca su finura, rendondez, profundidad y equilibrio.

Vue
Tono granate profundo con brillantes reflejos violáceos.
Nez
Intensamente aromática con notas de violetas, grosella negra, pedernal y de caja de puros.
Bouche
La entrada es armoniosa y aterciopelada y sus taninos sedosos. Vino que revela gran mineralidad y una hermosa delicadeza y elegancia. Extraordinaria duración de sabor.
Température de service
Se recomienda servir a 16 ºC.

Hasta 2036, aproximadamente, si se conserva en óptimas condiciones.

Climat
Las abundantes lluvias otoñales y su ambiente extremadamente húmedo pero suave propició la brotación temprana de la vid. A los suelos empapados y el clima inestable que continúo se unió la amenaza del mildiu, lo que llevó a los equipos de la bodega a salir del confinamiento por la emergencia sanitaria y trabajar para mantener sano el viñedo. El cese de las lluvias a mediados de junio supuso una mejora de las condiciones de las vides, pero el verano caluroso, casi abrasador, provocó el adelanto de una cosecha madura y de alta calidad

Vinification
Fermentación de los granos enteros en 51 tinas de acero inoxidable, roble y hormigón a temperatura controlada y de distintas capacidades diseñadas para una vinificación parcela por parcela. Extracción mediante remontados. Tiempo de encubado de 20 a 25 días.
Elevage
Crianza de 12 meses en barricas de roble francés (el 33% nuevas).

James Suckling:

This has a dusty character with black cherries and currants, as well as hints of cocoa, wet earth and raw mushrooms. Medium- to full-bodied with ripe, plush tannins that continue to build up throughout the deep, dark-fruited palate. It’s a muscular Poujeaux with a spicy and chocolatey finish. Try after 2026.

Wine Enthusiast:

Barrel Sample. Owned by a member of the Cuvelier family, this estate has produced a ripe, juicy wine bright with black currant and rich with generous tannins. The future is good for this carefully structured wine. 

Decanter:

Good depth of colour to the fruit, deep plum, with attractive fresh fruit aromatics. Confident tannic frame with acidity and black fruits - all the elements to ensure it will age. There isn't the richness of the fruit that you will find in 2016 but it is full of personality and easy to recommend. One of the more successful wines from Moulis in the vintage. Lots of tannins, and a point of bitterness on the close of play that needs to be carefully handled during ageing. A yield of 34hl/ha. Drinking Window 2025-2036.

Jeb Dunnuck:

Another surprisingly concentrated Moulis, the 2020 Château Poujeaux sports a dense ruby/purple color as well as terrific cassis and black cherry fruits, notes of tobacco and cedar, medium to full body, and a dense, layered mid-palate. It's terrific and one of the more age-worthy, serious wines I've tasted from this address, while still having plenty of up-front appeal. Tasted twice.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2020 Poujeaux is a strong follow-up to the excellent 2019. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, minty blackberries, pencil shavings and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and lively, with excellent concentration, refined tannins and a penetrating finish. A touch more tightly wound out of the gates than the 2019, it will reward a few years' patience with a broad drinking window.
