The 2016 vintage was productive in terms of yield, but also delivered high quality, according to Jesús Mendoza. This is a classic three-way blend of Tempranillo with 9% Graciano and 3% Mazuelo, sourced from a range of vineyards in the Sonsierra. Reflecting the shift in style at the bodega, it has a hint of subtle reduction, subtle oak, violet, toast and liquorice aromas and tangy dark berry flavours. 2024-30

Aromatically shy at first, this wine slowly opens up to strawberries, tomato leaf, balsamic and smoky notes of espresso coffee. It is starting to show maturation as the palate morphs from dark fruit to savoury characters and well-integrated oak influence. Vanilla and mocha frame blue and black berry fruits, clove and tobacco leaf.
