L'avis des experts

Tim Atkin:

Villamediana de Iregua is the source of this 38-year-old parcel that was in danger of being abandoned when the Sínodo team bought it in 2014. Thank goodness they did, as it has yielded a superb cuvée of Tempranillo with 2% Mazuelo and Malvasía Riojana. Spicy, intense and peppery with wonderful focus, a sheen of new oak, violet perfume and layers of succulent dark berry and liquorice flavours. 2025-35

Decanter:

Rhubarb and redcurrant aromas. Dark fruits and dark chocolate abound on the palate while darts of lemon refresh. Fine tannins, youthful with an exceptionally long finish.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2018 Sínodo Los Tollos clearly shows the difference in weather between 2018 and 2017, as I tasted it next to the 2017. This is mostly Tempranillo from a "Viñedo Singular" where there is also a little Mazuelo and Malvasía Riojana. The wine is floral and elegant, very attractive and with a medium-bodied palate and very fine tannins. Despite having more freshness and acidity than the 2017, I think it could do with even a little more. It's delicious and soft, very nice to drink. 938 bottles were filled in September 2019.
