The 2017 Riesling Bernkasteler Lay Auslese ** (White Capsule) is pure, fresh and elegant on the bright yet concentrated, lime-scented and slatey nose. On the palate, this is a concentrated, lush, straight, tightly woven and persistently salty Lay with remarkably brisk acids, good tannin structure and a long, piquant and stimulatingly mineral finish. This tensioned 2017 bears some filigreed talents but needs years to gain finesse and to slacken its muscles. Tasted two times in March and April 2019.
