L'avis des experts

Tim Atkin:

The idea of El Belisario is to express what Carlos Fernández calls a "classic Rioja Alavesa Tempranillo", all of it sourced from the historic Cuba Negra vineyard and dating back to 1910. Firm, chewy and intense, with mountainside acidity, layers of damson and black fig, some pine and fennel and a sturdy, sinewy finish. 2022-28

The Wine Advocate:

The creamy and oaky 2016 El Belisario was produced with Tempranillo from a single vineyard. It fermented in an open-top French oak vat and matured in used 600-liter French oak barrels for one year. It's ripe and modern, generously oaked and with abundant grainy tannins. It finishes with a warm touch. For fans of the style. It needs powerful food. 2,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2019.
