L'avis des experts

The Wine Advocate:

The Sordo 2016 Barolo Monvigliero (with 12,900 bottles released) is distinguished by light floral aromas of lilac and violet. After that initial whiff of blue flower, the bouquet offers heavier aromas of wild berry fruit, blood orange and rusty nail. The wine's texture is elegant and slender, but the tannins are quite prominent, and that astringency distracts from the desired silkiness. All of these Baroli from Sordo are made in a very traditional manner with long maceration times (lasting anywhere from four to eight weeks) with submerged cap. The finished wine is aged in traditional Slavonian oak casks for 24 months. - Monica Larner.

James Suckling:

An attractive, easy Barolo with sweet-berry and strawberry character. Some flowers, too. It’s medium bodied, fresh and clean. A little one dimensional, but very drinkable now.

Falstaff:

Clear radiant ruby red. Clear and open on the nose, some rich ripe cherries, a little leather, echoes of freshly cooked raspberry confit. A lucid fruit core on the palate, red berry and juicy fruit with tightly woven tannin, slightly salty, juicy again on the finish.

Wine Enthusiast:

Aromas of underbrush, red berry, blue flower and forest floor waft out of the glass. On the full-bodied palate, fresh acidity accompanies morello cherry, licorice and a hint of eucalyptus alongside tight, grainy tannins that leave a drying finish. Drink 2023–2028. Kerin O’Keefe

Decanter:

Rich aromas of blackcurrant, sloe berry and forest floor. It's velvety in the mouth with a rich texture and robust tannin. Big, structured and very fine.
