Scala Dei Heretge 2021

The 2021 Heretge is the only pure Cariñena produced at the winery and comes from vines planted 80 to 95+ years ago in the villages of La Vilella Alta and Torroja on llicorella slate slopes. It fermented with 50% full clusters and a maceration of 30 days and matured in oak foudre for 15 months and three more in concrete. This is by far the darkest wine in the portfolio; it has a different profile that is darker and earthier, with some elegant rusticity. It's ripe at 14.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.5 and 5.1 grams of acidity, black rather than red fruit and earthy tannins. This might need powerful food and/or more time in bottle. 2,597 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2023.
