L'avis des experts
I tasted a sample of the 2020 Peña Caballera, which should continue its élevage until around June or July 2022. It's a cooler year than 2019, with notes of orange peel and flowers, fine-grained tannins that give it a chalky texture. This is a very balanced and fresh vintage, round and polished, less fruit-driven than the eponymous Marañones, from a cool year that resulted in a later harvest (not as late as 2018), when the grapes ripened thoroughly but kept herbal freshness. It fermented in concrete with a long maceration (80 days!), and it's maturing in the same 1,500-liter oak foudre where the Peña Caballera wines have aged since the 2015 harvest.
