The flor character of the 2017 Mengoba Las Botas is definitely milder, as I guess the sherry casks are wearing out the effect of the yeasts as they become older. The wine here is the same base as the Godello Viejo Sobre Lías, and it was aged in a 800-liter foudre and then aged in Manzanilla and Oloroso casks for 12 to 14 months. It has a different profile—ashy, smoky, saline and spicy—and a medium-bodied, lively palate where the flavors are clean, focused and pungent, and the finish is spicy and almost salty. 1,200 bottles were filled in October 2019. This wine does not fit within the allowed styles of the appellation of origin, and therefore, it is sold without DO.
