L'avis des experts

The Wine Advocate:

The 2019 Majuelo La Otea comes from an ungrafted 150+-year-old vineyard on silty soils in the village of Villanueva de Duero and was cropped from a low-yielding, warm and dry year. It has 13.9% alcohol and very good freshness and acidity, with incredible parameters—pH 3.05 and 6.3 grams of acidity (tartaric). The juice from the pressing of the destemmed grapes fermented in 600-liter French oak barrels with indigenous yeasts where it matured for 11 months followed by a further 11 months to settle in stainless steel. It follows the line of the phenomenal 2018, with a very particular nose full of personality, with complex aromas of flowers, pollen and a salty twist reminiscent of chicken broth. It has the golden color and the notes of an oxidative wine (the opposite of reductive) and is very tasty, rich but fresh, balanced and with depth and length. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered in August 2021 into 2,051 bottles and 22 magnums.
