L'avis des experts
Like the other 2016s, the single-vineyard 2016 La Cóncova shows more color, extraction and effect from the élevage than the corresponding 2018. This comes from a plot planted with Tempranillo, Garnacha, Viura, Palomino and other grapes in the higher part of San Vicente, very close to Ribas de Tereso at 600 meters in altitude and with a north exposition on sandy soils with sandstone and limestone. It fermented with some full clusters and indigenous yeasts in an open container, and aging in this case was in a single new 300-liter French oak barrel. But the wine seems capable of taking the new wood. It seems like the place provides more freshness, with the higher altitude, exposition and soils, delivering a highly sophisticated wine that could come through more clearly if it weren't for some toast and earthy notes and a faint rusticity in the palate. But that is only because I tasted the 2018 next to it, and it made this pale in comparison. Only 380 bottles were filled in November 2017.
