Description

The Wine Advocate :

"Produced with Monastrell grapes from old, head-pruned vines, the 2013 El Sequé was bottled in January 2015 just in time for my tasting. The old-vine Monastrell grapes had a long, cool and wet vegetative cycle as the harvest didn't start until early October. The grapes fermented naturally in open vats and the wine matured in 500-liter barrels for one year. This 2013 is still a baby; dark purple with an almost black, opaque core and a nose of damsons, prunes, dark cherries, esparto grass and other Mediterranean herbs. The oak is very well-integrated in what seems like a fruit-driven, concentrated and powerful young red. The palate is full-bodied, built like a tank, but with very good balance, fine tannins and good underlying acidity. This XXL Monastrell gives the impression that it should develop in bottle for many years, turning into an Alicante classic. 30,000 bottles".
