The Wine Advocate:

The new 2016 El Cismático old vine Garnacha, was produced with grapes from three plots (1.47 hectares in El Mimbreral, 0.6 hectares in Piedra Blanca and 0.6 hectares in Cerro Merino), in the village of Villarroya de la Sierra, in Calatayud, with an elevation of 850 to 900 meters. The three plots have similar soils of pudding stones, red clay, marl and limestone, that tend to produce precise and floral wines with marked acidity and a low pH. This wine matured in 650-liter French oak pipes for 13 months. It's still extremely young and needs time in bottle. At the moment it has a lot of smoky bacon aromas, very spicy and marked by the élevage. It has some dusty tannins, with a serious grip and chalky tannins. It's a serious, powerful Garnacha built to age. Give this wine more time in bottle, as I have the feeling it's going to develop and grow in bottle. 3,100 bottles and 150 magnums produced and bottled in July 2018.
