L'avis des experts

The Wine Advocate:

The 2020 Alvarinho Barão Hospital is mostly unoaked (but for 10% aged for six months in used French oak). It comes in dry and with 13.5% alcohol. This handles the wood beautifully, the fruit mostly ignoring the modest wood treatment. It has a serious feel as a real table wine, good depth and a reasonable expression of fruit. The structure here is not as impressive. It adds nice aromatics on the nose. Between this and its Loureiro sibling this issue, I had a minor preference for the Loureiro, but they both are very well done, filling the mouth, providing flavor and good freshness. This, of course, has far more depth in terms of the mid-palate concentration but not as much personality. Reasonable minds might differ as to which is the better example of its type, but it's worth noting for bargain hunters that the Loureiro is half the price.
