L'avis des experts

The Wine Advocate:

I had to visit the vineyard that produces the 2019 Post-Crucifixión, as I loved the initial 2018 vintage. As I was expecting, it is an amazing vineyard with complex soils (including limestone, which is scarce in Bierzo) and a complex field blend of varieties. It's an ancient vineyard in the paraje of La Muria in the village of Santalla del Bierzo that is planted with mixed varieties. The wine has the reductive character and might not be as wild or surprising as the 2018, but it feels more serious, with good depth and a little more ripeness at 12.3% alcohol (2018 was 11.6%). It fermented in tinaja with 100% clusters and indigenous yeasts and had a long maceration with the skins. It matured for 14 months in one 228-liter barrel and one 600-liter barrel. It is earthy and has a metallic touch, with notes of blood and more volume than the 2018. There is a reductive touch and a floral twist (violets) that makes me think of quite a lot of Bastardo (Trousseau) in the field blend. There will be a little more from 2021, as until then the wild boars ate part of the grapes... It's different from the 2018, but every bit as good. There are 900 bottles of the 2019. It was bottled in November 2020.
