Produced with Albillo grapes from four different plots in different parts of the village of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, the 2016 Picarana shows the character of the grape, with volume and a certain bitterness in the finish. It fermented in used barriques with natural yeasts and matured in a combination of 300- and 500-liter oak barrels and 1,500-liter oak foudre for ten months. It has a great palate, with juicy fruit and good length, not showing the volume that Albillo can show when the year is cold and the ripeness is slow. It seems like 2016 is a good year for whites, not only for reds. It has classical notes of waxy apples and a balsamic touch, round and juicy with faint bitter notes in the finish. However, I give the edge to the 2017, today. 20,000 bottles produced and bottled in June 2017.
