The Wine Advocate:

The 2016 La Gándara is a blend of Mencía with 9% Garnacha Tintorera and 1% Palomino. The one red sold with the appellation Tierra de León, it is produced with grapes from a single vineyard that gives the wine its name. It's a two-hectare plot of old vines on red soils at 830 meters altitude. All the grapes fermented together in full clusters with indigenous yeasts in an oak vat with a maceration of 60 days. The wine matured in 500-liter French oak barrels for 12 months. It smells of expensive barrels, sweet spices and a nice core of flowers and berries. The palate revealed abundant, fine-grained tannins and some flavors lent by the wood that should get better integrated with some more time in bottle. It is nicely balanced, with citrus freshness. I hope it will show less effect from the oak in future vintages. It was bottled in February 2018.
