L'avis des experts

The Wine Advocate:

The spicy 2016 La Faraona showed notes of aniseed, Jamaica pepper and nutmeg. It is perhaps a little fruit-driven and has more herbal and mineral notes with the classical blood orange peel and floral aromas. There are always some tannins that need a little polishing in La Faraona, but the wine is drinkable now. This is a great vintage of La Faraona. They had tiny yields of ten hectoliters per hectare. 1,389 bottles, 46 magnums, 9 double magnums and 5 Jeroboams produced.

James Suckling:

The highest level of concentration and ripeness of Alvaro Palacios’ Bierzo 2016s, but also the most finely grained tannins. This has great energy and mineral freshness, combined with something I can only describe as the dark side of the Bierzo force. Major tannins on the very deep finish promise long aging potential. Barrel sample.

Decanter:

It's the tectonic fault with its mineral complexity that sets the 0.55ha of this vineyard apart in Bierzo. It is aromatically precise with fine cedar and mineral notes, while the palate is thrilling, alight with dark fruits restrained by refined, savoury tannins and Mencía's always bright acidity.
