The Wine Advocate:

"There is a new special red from the amazing Finca Genoveva produced since 2010, but tasted here for the first time with the 2013 Finca Genoveva Caíño from extremely old pergola-pruned vines, with some 80% of the vines thought to be over 180-years-old! The wine is produced as it was produced in the past, as Caíño was never destemmed and the bunches were foot trodden and fermented in open top barrels, then matured in well-seasoned barriques for 12 months in search of purity and clarity, no oak aromas or flavors. This is the lightest-colored of all reds, with a subtle elegant nose, very balsamic at first, earthy, with notes of porcini mushrooms and something almost minty, a whiff of camphor, developing the telltale cracked peppercorn aromas that I always associate with the variety. The palate is sharp, sinewy, long rather than wide, vertical and fresh, with the austere minerality of the granite, electric and with great tension and precision. The finish is very long and intense, lifted by the acidity and minerality. The power is not built around concentration, but about tension and inner power. Simply stunning!! 900 bottles were produced in 2013."
