The Wine Advocate:

Many would say the ultra pale 2016 Carril del Rey could be a rosé, as this vintage is extremely light colored. It's bright and expressive, with a subtle nose of watermelon, red raspberries (it was a little tight) and is nicely textured with classical tannins. But, for whatever reason, the grapes didn't have color at the point when they felt the grapes had already developed the flavors and aromas they were looking for. In general, the 2016 reds are all quite pale, but this is the palest of all. But don't get me wrong, this is 14% alcohol, so the grapes (and the wine) are ripe, a little less than other vintages, but ripe. Quite a surprising version of Carril del Rey...without color! A rosé with the palate of a red. 2,200 bottles were filled in March 2018.
